Perseverantia Our Spirit

Why have a school song? Why bother? Lots of schools don’t have them. That’s their choice; this is ours.

A school song is a unique signature piece that unites us and provides an anchor amidst uncertainty.

It is a lasting legacy for you – pupils – and us – staff – and those that follow throughout the years. It uses our words, our motto and therefore has meaning for us all, and it creates an identity to cherish.

A school song can be used in times of sadness or happiness, to open a new building (The Cooper Building), to finish a concert or assembly, or even to intimidate the opposition. It tells people who we are, what we stand for and that we mean business.

A school song stimulates the memory and honours our history and I want Old Silhillians to remember the words, the context and the significance for many years to come. Sing it with pride.

Perseverantia Our Spirit

This enduring seat of learning,

The School where Shenstone was once taught

Has from Pole to each Headmaster shaped

Our studies, lives and thoughts.

Perseverantia our spirit

On the paths to virtue we tread.

Each day brings new endeavours,

The seeds of wisdom planted deep.

In years to come when we are grown

The world will that knowledge reap.

Perseverantia our spirit

On the paths to virtue we tread.

The questions asked of each of us

Ev’n when our fortitude is tried,

Are met with courage and with strength

Our heads and spirits high.

Perseverantia our spirit

On the paths to virtue we tread.

Here greats have walked before us,

Their might does raise us higher still.

Their legacies inspire us

As we their places fill.

Perseverantia our spirit

On the paths to virtue we tread.

School cannot last a lifetime,

But for a lifetime we remain

In word and deed Silhillians,

And proud to bear that name.

Perseverantia our spirit

On the paths to virtue we tread
