Musician Of The Year To Give First Recital
01 May 2009
A gifted 13-year-old from Solihull School who won the 2008 West Midlands Young Musician of the Year award is to give her first full violin recital at the independent co-educational school.
Jacqui Martens will be performing popular works by Bach, Bartok, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel and Kreisler to piano accompaniment in the Bushell Hall on Thursday, April 30.
Jacqui gained a Grade 8 with distinction – just one level below a teaching diploma – in violin at the age of only 11, and has won a string of awards at music festivals throughout the Midlands.
Having performed with the National Children’s Orchestra and the CBSO Youth Orchestra, she is currently a member of the Academy Chamber Orchestra and plays in Solihull School’s symphony orchestra, chamber music group and string ensemble group.
Additionally Jacqui plays duets with her equally talented 11-year-old brother and fellow Solihull School music scholarship winner Dominic and also sings in the school’s chapel choir.
Due to take his Grade 7 cello examination this summer, Dominic is a member of the senior school’s chamber group, string group and orchestra as well as the junior school orchestra.
Their father Eric Martens, a former professional cellist from South Africa, said: “Jacqui is delighted to have been invited to give her first full recital at Solihull School and she has been working extremely hard to ensure a performance she can be proud of.”
The recital by Jacqui Martens will take place on April 30 at 7.30pm in the Bushell Hall at Solihull School in Warwick Road, Solihull. Free tickets are available by calling 0121 705 0958.
