Solihull School stages The Scarlet Pimpernel
04 Mar 2008
Solihull School students are promising theatre-goers a week of swashbuckling romance and adventure with a musical journey back to the French Revolution.
A cast of 80 and a 30-strong orchestra are staging The Scarlet Pimpernel, based on the novel by Baroness Orczy, in the school's Bushell Hall from Tuesday March 4 to Saturday March 8.
The musical presents the rip-roaring exploits of nobleman Sir Percy Blakeney who used his mastery of disguise, superior swordsmanship and quick wittedness to save countless condemned prisoners from the guillotine while being pursued relentlessly by the sadistic agent Chauvelin.
Adam Carver will be playing the Pimpernel, with the role of his wife Marguerite shared between Jackie Lewis and Frankie Rhodes. Chavelin will be played by Adam Massingberd-Mundy.
Former pupil Emma Hubble, who played Maria in the school's production of The Sound of Music last year and is now training to be a professional actress at the prestigious Arts Ed Drama School in London, has been assisting in rehearsals.
