Pupils return for borough's biggest bag packing campaign
12 Dec 2007
Big-hearted students from Solihull School are looking to add to the amazing £52,000 they have bagged for a teenage cancer charity. More than 150 pupils past and present will be packing shopping bags at the town’s Marks & Spencer store in Mell Square this Christmas - and hoping for a big return. This is their fourth Christmas bag-packing campaign for Teenage Cancer Trust, having raised £22,000 last year, £18,000 in 2005 and £12,000 in 2004. The charity was nominated by the parents of a Solihull School boy who died three years ago. The bag packers will be in the branch from the start of their school holidays on Saturday, December 15 to Christmas Eve each day from 8am to 8pm. They have already spent the first weekend of December bag packing in store.
Organiser Christine Mitchell said: “All the pupils are working extremely hard to add as much as possible to the staggering amount they have raised over the past three years. I hope that local people will continue to provide their generous support”. Phillip Griffiths, Solihull School Headmaster, added: “I am very proud of our pupils for giving up their holiday time to take part in such a worthwhile community initiative.”
