Race Into The Record Books
14 Apr 2010
Solihull School has raced into the record books by winning the Greater Birmingham League cross country championship for the third year running.
The boys’ team from the independent co-educational school smashed previous school records after remaining unbeaten in the league since the start of 2009.
The seniors beat off scores of schools from across the West Midlands, Warwickshire and Staffordshire to clinch the first division title, with captain Jonathan Simpkins winning all but one of his races. The senior mixed team also excelled by finishing runners up in the second division of the Greater Birmingham League.
Solihull School also demonstrated its continued dominance of middle-distance running with a clean sweep of the trophies in the Sutton Pairs Race, the Queen Mary’s Walsall Relay and the Cannon Hill Park Race.
Other shining stars among the runners were James Cronin, Alan Yates, Phil Harrison, Joe Read, Matthew Meredith and Joe Watson.
Phil Holt, Head of Solihull School’s Running Club, said: “This has been another exceptionally proud year for the school. The success of our runners has been down to their excellent team spirit and a willingness to train hard in all conditions.”
