England Rugby Squad at Solihull School
22 Feb 2007
The junior stars of England rugby are to hone their skills at Solihull School in preparation for this season’s international matches.
The co-educational independent school will be the training ground for the England Under 18 and Under 16 squads in February 16-18 and in March 2-3.
While the senior Six Nations Championship is in full swing, around 25 players from across the country will converge on the school to prepare for matches against Wales on March 5, France on March 8, and Italy on March 11.
In addition, an Under 16 England side will be playing a warm-up fixture against Worcester Academy Under 17s at the school on March 4.
Solihull School hosting an England rugby squad is a natural progression, having long hosted training sessions for Midlands and Warwickshire sides.
Philip Griffiths, Solihull School Headmaster, said: “We are delighted and honoured that the England Rugby Union has asked to take advantage of our superb sports facilities for their international training.”
He added: “We have a history of producing top-class rugby teams and many of our pupils have won international honours at schoolboy levels over the years.”
Solihull School First XV is currently preparing for a series of national seven-a-side competitions, having won 12 of its 15 fifteen a side matches this season. Its First and Second XVs will be touring New Zealand and Fiji in the Summer of 2008 in preparation for the 2008/9 season.
