Youngsters Bag Record £22,000 for Cancer Charity

22 Feb 2007

Hard-working sixth-formers from Solihull School put in bags of effort to burst their fund-raising target for a teenage cancer charity.

More than 150 pupils past and present raised a staggering £22,105 for Teenage Cancer Trust in the borough’s biggest charity bag-packing campaign over Christmas.

They spent the first three weekends of December, as well as the whole of Christmas week, packing bags for shoppers at the town’s Marks & Spencer store.

The volunteers smashed their own target for the charity, after raising £18,000 in 2005 and £12,000 the previous year.

Organiser Christine Mitchell said: “Starting our campaign earlier enabled us to smash our £20,000 target. The commitment of our volunteers and the support of shoppers have been fantastic.”

Phillip Griffiths, Solihull School Headmaster, added: “I am delighted that so many of our sixth formers chose to give up their own time to help the wider community in this way.”
