Show Jumping Success
25 Jun 2009
Gold medal winning equestrian Georgia Lovett from Solihull School has been taken the show jumping world in her stride.
The talented 12-year-old, who lives in Earlswood, finished runner up in the individual junior show jumping section of the new Warwickshire Schools Equestrian League.
Competing on her pony Hold on Henry over 2ft 6in fences, Georgia and her team-mate Zoe Harding also helped Solihull School to fourth place in the team competition as the only two-member side.
Georgia’s success followed winning the Midlands championships at Weston Lawns near Coventry at her first attempt in 2008 on her previous pony Mica Hot Chocolate, and gaining a silver medal in the South West Championships at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire the same year.
Georgia took up pony riding at the age of just two and a half years old, and was competing in local riding club shows by the age of six.
Trained by her mother Julie - also a competitive rider - she won a silver medal in the ten and under class in the Great Britain Championships at the David Broome Event Centre in Wales in 2006 at the age of nine.
Julie Lovett said: “We went along with no expectations as we knew that the competition was going to be tough and that it was Georgia’s first time at such a big event - and we were over the moon with her success.”
Qualifying again in 2007 on Mica Hot Chocolate, Georgia beat off the challenge of 70 other jumpers in her age group to win her first gold medal and now rides two different ponies, Missy Bo Jangles and Hold on Henry.
Julie added: “Georgia is extremely dedicated and we are happy to encourage her to fulfil her dreams of one day competing at the Horse of the Year Show at the NEC and of pursuing a career with horses.”
