Performing Arts and Music Summer Term Virtual Events

Whilst it has been a joy to be back in school for most this term, many of our usual Performing Arts events have ended up being either performed to an internal, single-year group audience and/or recorded. The videos provide both the pupils involved and the whole school community (all pupils, staff and families) the chance to have a flavour of the many talents of our wonderful boys and girls here at Solihull. The one thing we did manage to perform to a large audience (of Third Form pupils) was the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, but for copyright reasons we have been unable to record and share that. We had planned two more performances (to Shell Form and Fourth Form), but these were cut short due to year group self-isolation – the sorry tale of this second half of term.

We very much hope you enjoy watching any/all of our events by clicking the links below.

J4 Musical

The J4 pupils have persevered this year to rehearse and record an outstanding musical performance, ‘What’s The Crime Mr Wolf?’, a comic spin on the famous fairytale and one where Mr Wolf is put on trial!

Preparatory School Summer Concert

This year’s Prep School Summer Concert has been recorded in school and features a range of soloists and year-group ensembles.  There are two wind bands, three string groups, four choirs, one flute ensemble, one piano trio and 16 wonderful soloists.  Thank you to all pupils and staff for working so hard to produce this concert.

Dance Showcase

Welcome to the 2021 Dance Showcase! Dance has been a driving point for our students through a difficult and challenging year, and as a department we have had to think innovatively about how to make teaching and learning accessible through a variety of restrictions.

Lower Sixth Informal Concert

Throughout the year, we have shared Informal Concerts every Friday afternoon via a link on Teams, including performances recorded by pupils at home during periods of lockdown and year-group performances when we have been in school.  If you are yet to experience one of these concerts, we would highly recommend this week’s, which features some of our talented Lower Sixth musicians.  If you would like links to other Informal Concerts, please email baumberi@solsch.org.uk.

Senior School Summer Concert

We are delighted to share our recorded Senior School Summer Concert with you.  Covid restrictions have meant that we haven’t been able to rehearse the usual large ensembles such as Concert Band and Big Band this year, however, we have some new year-group and chamber ensembles, who have prepared pieces for this concert.  There are also two rather special pieces which wouldn’t be possible in a normal year, as they feature four pianos and six pianos respectively, which may not be practical in a concert hall.
