scholarships and assisted places
Scholarships
The School offers a substantial number of Scholarships for which all 11+ and 13 + candidates are eligible. The entrance examination, sat by all applicants, provides the first criteria for selection and the top 40 – 50 candidates at 11+ are then invited back for a scholarship interview. From this group the scholarship awards will be made. At 13+ potential scholarship winners are invited for interview, based on their examination performance.
In 2008, 25 awards were made and values ranged from 40% to 10% but the number of awards and their value is at the discretion of the Headmaster.
Assisted Places
In addition to Scholarships, the School also has Assisted Places which make provision for pupils with financial needs who have performed well in the examination. Such awards are intended to meet or reduce fees but are provided on the basis of a means test. To qualify, parents are asked to declare an interest in writing, before the entrance examination. After the examination, if a place is offered, the assessment forms will be sent with the offer of the place and parents are asked to return the forms to the Bursar as quickly as possible.
Music Awards
There are Music Scholarships available for pupils applying to enter the School at 11+, 12+ and 13+. Scholarships vary in amount but usually range from 50% to 25% of the annual school fee. Scholarships are awarded based on performance in separate Music auditions, which take place in early February, following the results of the entrance examinations. In last year’s exams, Scholarships were awarded to six pupils. Application forms and details of the auditions are available from the Admissions Secretary on 0121 705 4273 or at enquiries@solsch.org.uk
