Art

All pupils undertake the GCSE Art and Design (Fine Art) certificate, which provides for study in a wide range of disciplines including Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Lens and light based media and other forms of Two and Three Dimensional Imagery. Those showing a particular aptitude have the opportunity for additional entry for the GCSE Art and Design (Critical and Contextual) qualification, which is similarly predominantly practical but places greater emphasis on the understanding and appreciation of other practitioners and broader cultural aspects. All pupils will be entered for the OCR Set Task in the Lower Fifth and the Art and Design Portfolio units in the Upper Fifth.

The course caters for the needs of the pupil who does not intend to pursue the subject beyond GCSE and also offers a more detailed element for those who will study Art & Design in the future.

Art and Design Portfolio

This requires the production of a sustained and thematic portfolio of practical work supported by appropriate art historical and cultural links.

OCR Set Task

In the examination candidates select from a choice of given starting points and make a personal response. Both Coursework and Examination units are marked internally and externally moderated.
