Curriculum: Banner: English

At Solihull, the English Department is committed to improving the quality of the students’ written and spoken English, as well as the pupils’ ability to respond critically and sensitively to a selection of fiction and non-fiction texts from a range of genres and periods.

The English Department consists of seven full-time members of staff. In the GCSE years the same member of staff will take a set for the two years of the course and will be responsible for the teaching of both the Language and Literature components. This provides the continuity that we consider essential at this stage. In the Sixth Form we hope to have three teachers per set, so that a pupil at this level gets variety both in teaching and opinion.
