ICT

In today’s society, computers are a very common sight in offices, shops, schools and the home. Most of the children in our care have a computer at home, and are familiar with how to control the machine, load and play games etc.

Our aim is to channel the natural enthusiasm that children have for new technology, to show that the use of IT has many benefits and can enhance and simplify our lives. It is not a miracle machine however, and can only do what we tell it, and there are often quicker and more efficient ways of doing things than using a computer. In the Thirds (Year 7) we explore the use of the computer and in the Fourth Form (Year 9) IT becomes an option subject.

While games have benefits such as helping co-ordination and control, the computer is a tool that we can use to help us.

We aim to:

  • help pupils to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in technology. It will encourage them to identify opportunities for technological activity and to apply their abilities effectively and safely. The syllabus will also encourage pupils to consider the effects and implications of technological activity
  • provide for activities which cross subject boundaries and give pupils opportunities to work both individually and as members of a team
  • encourage pupils to gather, store process and present information through activities in a range of contexts. It will also give pupils opportunities to design, implement and document information technology systems and develop understanding of the wider applications and effects of information technology
  • solve problems through the use of information systems and associated principles and techniques
  • develop a broad and balanced view of the range of applications and information systems and an understanding of their capabilities and limitations
