Design & Technology
The first year comprises a series of short skills-based exercises to develop the ‘design and make’ capabilities of the pupil. The second year focuses upon a major project of the pupil’s choice. This will be thoroughly researched and documented before producing a working prototype of high quality. Throughout the course, pupils will learn theories of design, manufacture and technology, as well as evaluating existing products, systems and ideas.
The Department offers two strands of Design and Technology:
1. Electronic Products - pupils will design and make a product incorporating electronic systems.
2. Resistant Materials - pupils will design and make an object using traditional materials such as wood, metal and plastic.
Design and Technology challenges its pupils to work independently, both inside and outside the confines of school. It is hugely rewarding not only academically, but also personally.
