Study aims to satisfy the attainment targets of Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Presentation. Two terminal examinations account for 60% of available marks and are entitled ‘Non-Fiction, Media and Information’ and ‘Different Cultures, Analysis and Argument’.
English Literature
This is a separate scheme of study and is tested by staged examinations accounting for 70% of available marks. Candidates must study three of the prescribed texts, covering a range of pre- and post-twentieth century verse, drama and prose. The Post – 1914 Drama modular examination is taken in the January of the UVth year, with the option of re-sitting it in June should the candidate so wish.
Coursework
One coursework folder will be produced by each candidate to satisfy requirements for both English and English Literature. (40% for English; 30% for Literature)
The folder will contain four written exercises, with three based on literature texts from different eras. The other unit requires writing to explore, imagine and entertain.
Separate Oral Records accounting for 20% of English coursework are sent to the Board and candidates will be assessed in the context of extended individual contribution, group discussion and interaction, drama-focussed activity.
