GCSE (OCR)
GCSE History is a very popular option which concentrates on 20th century events and is very helpful for understanding the world we live in today. It is very much a skills based course – the emphasis is on thinking for yourself rather than learning vast amounts of information. The course begins with a look at Britain in the early 20th century – the way in which life in Britain was affected by the First World War. Then we study America – the Roaring 20s, Prohibition, and the rise of gangsters like Al Capone. Finally we study the Cold War: In 1962 the world came within minutes of Nuclear War – we will discover why. There are two exams, and coursework accounts for 25% of the overall mark. In addition, to complement the study of America, we are offering a very exciting trip to New York.
