Religious Studies

Head of Department: Mr R Wright

The aim of the GCSE in Religious Studies is to encourage an informed and reasoned approach to religion and its followers. It is a course which looks at the beliefs and actions of believers, with the intention of understanding and evaluating these in an academic context.

The course is designed to be interesting and stimulating to those of religious faith or no religious faith.

The course is divided into two sections. The first is ‘Christianity’. This looks at the life of Jesus and how this has formed the church and affects believers today. It is examined by one 1½ hour exam and one piece of coursework.

The second section is ‘Christian Perspectives on Personal, Social and World Issues’. This lengthy title indicates a fascinating course which examines the way Christian ethics is applied to modern day moral, social and global issues. It is examined by one 1½ hour exam and one piece of coursework.

If you have an open, enquiring mind and an interest in people and the world around you, this is the course for you.
