SOLIHULL STUDENTS SOUTH AMERICA BOUND

Spanish and geography lessons are set to come to life for the first group of Solihull School students to visit Chile as part of an exchange programme.

Six pupils aged from 15-17 from the co-educational independent school will be assisting at three schools and exploring the culture and geography of the country from March 20-April 8.

The party, led by geography teacher Julie Brown, will be hosted by the British School of Punta Arenas in Patagonia, Southern Oxford School in Villarrica, and Wessex School in Concepción.

Students from Wessex School have already paid two visits to Solihull School, joining in classes and sporting events, and two of its Gap Year students are currently helping with Spanish lessons.

In what for all of them will be their first visit to South America, the boys will be assisting with English lessons and giving presentations to various age groups, as well as learning some Spanish.

Their visit will include travelling from the capital Santiago to Punta Arenas in the far south and back to experience the impressive physical geography including glaciers and volcanoes for their A level coursework and to take part in adventurous activities including canoeing and climbing.

Julie Brown said: “Our first return visit to Chile is the result of two years of planning and gaining approvals. All the party are looking forward to their South American experience and have prepared by spending time at the school's mountain cottage in Snowdonia on a bonding exercise.”
