Debating Society
Solihull School has one of the largest debating programmes in the country. With over 250 students involved in debate, the school runs weekly debates in the Junior School, Lower School, Middle School and the Sixth Form. In addition to this, the school has a highly successful competition squad that competes in competitions across the country. In the last year we have represented Central England in both the U18 Oxford University finals day and the U18 and U16 Cambridge University finals, were runners up at the Warwick University competition, and most recently placed first, second and third at the Birmingham University competition.
Many of the programmes are run by the highly prestigious Debating Committee which is made up of 12 elected students currently led by the Debating President, Helen Cara Younan. The school has six teachers involved as coaches. Dr Spratley supervises the Lower School Debating programme, Dr Partridge and Ms Smith are competition coaches, Ms Harford oversees the BP competition teams, Dr Johnson is the Debating Coordinator and Mr Anderton leads the Sixth Form Debating Committee who run the programmes within the school.
