Big Band
Big Band
It’s been a jazz year! At least it has been for the Big Band, bringing a touch of swing to Solihull School’s music concerts. The ever-growing Big Band has been taking on harder pieces than last year, and already we can look forward to even more improvement. Under the guidance of jazzman, Tony Godfrey, the band performed such classic standards like Little Brown Jug and Stomping at the Savoy. These met with tumultuous applause at the last Commemoration Concert, and for the excellent interpretation, as always, of the band’s signature tune In the Mood at the St Cecilia Concert. The great thing about the band is the opportunities it gives for the individual players to shine, with Andrew Pickering and Philip Achille (tenor sax, alto sax) taking memorable solos, along with Chris Inns and Mark James taking equally memorable solos on the trumpet.
This year, unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to Puneet Tailor and Sebastian Brown and we can only thank them for their excellent contribution to the ever-growing jazz at Solihull School. If you thought this year was great, wait until next year!
