String Ensemble
String Ensemble
Under the adept leadership of Stephen Webster and the attentive baton of Ms Dolby, the String Ensemble has once again enjoyed another successful year, performing admirably on two separate occasions.
In November, the String Ensemble started the year with a performance of The Dancing Master by Sutcliffe, a modern take on three Renaissance dances.
In May we saw the departure of Philip Achille from his normal position on the double bass for the saxophone in a rendition of So We Too for alto saxophone and strings. Rehearsals for this paid off, as this was much enjoyed by the audience in the Bushell Hall.
Many thanks must go to Ms Dolby for her continued commitment to the group each week, and also to Stephen Webster and Rosalind Ievins for whom these will be the final two performances as part of the String Ensemble. Shortly after joining String Ensemble many years ago, Stephen wrote, “I guess that I will be playing with them up until the Sixth Form”. Both he and Rosie have managed to stick with us right through to the end; their contributions to the group have been valued greatly. They are wished every success as they leave the school for higher education.
