Cricket U12 XI

U12 XI

Mr Bishop’s and Mr Farmer’s U12 XI has had an excellent season, winning 7 and losing 2 of the 9 games played. At the time of going to press, the team are eagerly waiting to find out who their opponents will be in the Warwickshire Schools Cup Semi Final.

The team was led by Fred Howard during the early part of the season with Jon Coleman captaining the side during the second half of the season. Both have provided excellent leadership on the field gaining the respect of their teammates.

Batting performances have been very consistent with all of the first seven batsmen making valuable contributions at important times during games. Worthy of note have been the match winning 52 not out by Dominic Harding against Warwick and an excellent 81 from Jon Coleman against RGS Worcester. Chris Hooper, Ben Crowe and Tom Wintle have regularly contributed 20’s and 30’s, and the opening partnership of Matthew Bacon and Fred Howard provides much promise for next season.

The bowling attack has developed as the season has progressed. Martin Bullard and Tom Wintle have formed a useful opening pace attack. Mrigank Sinha, Ashwin Parthasarathy and Steve Bowland have ably supported them. All have had 3 or 4 wicket hauls during the season. The spin bowing department has been in the hands of Dominic Harding who took 3 for 18 against RSG Worcester and Jon Coleman who took and unlikely 4 for 3 against Wolverhampton. Arthur Haynes has also chipped in with both bat and ball particularly during the latter part of the season. The fielding has been good with very few catches being missed. The sharpness and placing of the field has made a significant contribution to the team’s success, providing excellent back up to the bowling department, particularly in the Cup Competition.

Worthy of note is Matthew Bacon’s wicket keeping. Matt has taken a number of excellent catches and has managed to provide a couple of sharp stumpings.

This has been an excellent and enjoyable first season. The team are grateful to the parents who have provided support and encouragement. The team are looking forward to building on both their individual and team success next season.

Mr M Bishop and Mr C R Farmer

Special Thanks

Kaushik Patel, the school’s cricket professional has worked tirelessly throughout the Summer, providing a great deal of help and coaching not only to the senior XI but throughout the age groups.

Cricketing Saturdays continue to be very enjoyable occasions at Solihull School and there are a number of people responsible for this. Many staff are involved in the running of school cricket; Miss Pearson, Mr Jones, Mr Bussey, Mr Reddington, , Mr Hart, Mr Hifle, Mr Roberts, Mr Hall-Palmer, Mr Bishop and Mr Farmer.
Mr Bayley and all the kitchen staff are forever flexible and accommodating and continue to produce excellent cricketing lunches and teas.

Mr Hammond and his groundstaff work exceptionally hard to produce excellent facilities and high quality pitches.
The cricket Club, I am sure will join me in thanking Mr. John Hammond for his fabulous reign as Head Groundsman and wish him a very happy and well-deserved retirement.

I would also like to record my thanks to all of the many willing scorers, 12th men and the support of the headmaster, Mr. Claughton. As you know John Claughton leaves us this year. He has been an incredibly supportive headmaster. His very presence has helped give cricket an extra ‘buzz’ during his time here. We wish John, Alexandra, James, Tom and James our very best wishes.
