Maths Video Conference
Strategy Games Maths Video Conference

On Thursday the 14th June all of the pupils in J2, J3 and J4 went to the Bushell Hall to take part in the Strategy Games Video Conference run by the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge. We were also joined by 14 schools from around Solihull, who sent four pupils and a member of staff, which meant that we had over 200 people battling each other throughout the day. Adam Boddison, the conference lecturer, explained the rules of lots of fun and challenging games. He then allowed us about 20 minutes to compete against others, with a view to coming up with our own winning strategies. It wasn’t easy!
After we had time to play the games all the schools participating in the conference were given the opportunity to share their ideas and strategies with the others. There were lots of clever contributions from pupils at Park Hill Primary School in Coventry, St Mary’s Primary School in Lancashire and of course many from our own in the Bushell Hall.
Throughout the day we played many great games, all of which have simple rules and could be played anywhere with a wide age range. If you want to find out about these games or play the games against a computer you can do so on the ‘motivate.maths.org’ or the ‘nrich.maths.org’ websites. I recommend that you do – they are fab.
We all really enjoyed the day and it was great to be able to video conference with pupils from around the country and play against pupils from other schools.
