Attainment Grades

These are awarded three times a year at the end of each of the three terms. Grades are published in a letter at the end of each term and appear on the end of term reports.

Attainment grades measure how three aspects of a pupil’s learning contribute to their academic progress. The three areas are:

  • Attitude to tasks set (class / homework)
  • Listening skills
  • Participation in lessons

Each of these areas will be assessed on a three-point scale:

  • 3: Contributing towards academic progress by making the most of ability.
  • 2: Contributing towards academic progress but with scope for improvement.
  • 1: Current performance limits academic progress.

In addition, the pupils will be assessed on a ten-point scale for level of attainment over the term.

10 = A* grade
8-9 = A grade
6-7 = B grade
4-5 = C grade
1-3 = D grade

There is also a Form Tutor’s Grade which is intended as a measure of conduct in its broadest sense: so it covers tidiness, helpfulness, unselfishness and co-operation, as well as general behaviour, inside and outside the classroom.
