Art

Head of Department: Mr J J Nickson

Two papers are offered. One deals with a broader base of study and can include any of the media options available within the syllabus. The other paper requires an in-depth study of a particular medium chosen from the syllabus.

Areas of study available are: Painting/Drawing, Printmaking (Screen Painting, Etching etc.), Graphic Design, 3-D Design and Ceramics.

The course will cater for the needs of the pupil who does not intend to pursue the subject beyond GCSE and will also offer a more detailed element for those who will study Art & Design in the future.

Coursework

This comprises three units of practical work combined with art historical links. In the examination, candidates are required to produce a unit of work in response to a given starting point. An exhibition of work done in the final year, together with selected work from the first year, will be required. Work will be marked internally and moderated by an external moderator.
