Scholarships
Sixth Form Academic Scholarship Examination: Wednesday 2 March 2011
Solihull School offers a substantial number of Scholarships each year for the Sixth Form. The Scholarships range in value from 50% to 10% of fees for the two years. There are specific scholarships for Music, for Art and Design, and for Design and Technology, but all the other academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of written papers in a wide range of subjects. A number of the Scholarships are named Scholarships, funded by bequest. For example, the top Scholarship in Maths and Science is the Ansell Scholarship and the top Scholarship in non-scientific subjects is the Bushell Scholarship. A Candidate for a Maths Scholarship will take two Maths papers; a Science Scholarship Candidate will take one Science paper and a Maths paper. Candidates taking arts subjects must take a subject paper from the subjects listed on the application form, plus a General Paper, which is compulsory. The General Paper lasts for one hour and will involve a choice of essay questions on topical issues.
the minimum requirement for applying for any of the Scholarships is a predicted grade A at GCSE in the same subject. Scholarships are awarded in a particular subject and successful candidates will be expected to take that subject for A Level in both sixth form years.
Candidates may apply for any or all of the Scholarships.
Art & Design Scholarship
The maximum value of this scholarship is 50% remission of fees. Candidates must submit a folio of work and a sketch book. In addition there is a two-hour objective drawing test. The assessments will take place during March.
