New Chair of Governors

We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Damian Kelly as Chair of Governors with effect from January 2022.  Damian takes over from Mark Hopton, who stood down after more than 16 years on the Board, including 11 as Chairman.

Damian, an Old Silhillian, has been a Governor for 10 years and was Vice Chairman throughout 2021.  He is a partner at Lodders LLP, specialising in employment law, and has extensive experience of a wide variety of HR and other commercial matters.

Like his predecessor, Damian is dedicated to ensuring the successful development of the school and is committed to excellence in educational provision, including both the classroom curriculum and also via the many co-curricular opportunities available to pupils of all ages. He also champions the promotion of wellbeing for both staff and pupils, together with diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the school community.

Headmaster David EJJ Lloyd said: “I have been fortunate to have Mark alongside me for the last 11 years. He led by example and was highly respected by young and old, former pupils or not.  I now look forward to working closely with Damian as we fully embrace the benefits stemming from a 3-18 co-educational school on two fabulous campuses.”

Damian commented “I have had the pleasure of working with Mark throughout my time on the School Board.  Like many members of our Board, I have much to be grateful to him  for.  I am excited to lead our Board, working with David and his excellent team. Focussing on the future, I look forward to welcoming our incoming Executive Headmaster, Charles Fillingham, when he joins us in January 2023.”
