Reception

Our Reception curriculum is topic based and is creative and investigative, allowing children to develop their skills and competencies in small groups under the caring support and expert guidance of the teachers and teaching assistants working with them.

Except for specialist subjects such as PE, music and swimming, children are taught in their own class and year group.  As a result, our children enjoy the security and familiarity of their own classroom environment, spending high-quality time with their teachers as well as learning new skills and subjects from specialist teachers.

We follow the EYFS curriculum and with small class sizes, with a maximum of 20 pupils, we can offer each child a high degree of adult support.  We promote child-initiated learning in order to build early independence.  To achieve this, each child is supported and challenged in tasks that are tailored to their individual needs. High priority is placed on a good grounding in literacy and maths skills, through daily phonics and maths lessons which ensure all children make rapid progress through the EYFS curriculum. At this early stage, we also encourage children to reflect on their own learning as well as appreciating the efforts of others.

As well as having two well-resourced classrooms, we also have an exciting outdoor area offering a bike track, music area, art boards and plenty of space to play and explore. Our beautiful grounds also offer children fantastic learning opportunities.  This includes a weekly Forest School lesson where pupils have opportunities to build dens, use tools, play in the mud kitchen and enjoy a campfire.
