David Walliams visits Junior School

Our Junior School was lucky enough to meet comedian, actor and children’s book author David Walliams this week after naming him as their favourite author.

As part of Solihull School’s involvement in the Big Read, a Birmingham initiative encouraging literacy through art, the Junior School created a homage to David Walliams’ books with their BookBench titled Our World of David Walliams. Every member of the Junior School took part in painting the bench before it was displayed in Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery over the summer.

To show David their passion for his books, each child in the Junior School wrote the star a letter inviting him to the school and as luck would have it, he said yes!

The children were treated to dramatic readings from Windy Mindy and Gangsta Granny, and pupils were invited to ask David questions about his writing inspiration and his favourite children’s books. The winners of our bench design competition were also lucky enough to receive a signed copy of David’s latest book, The Midnight Gang. Signed copies of all of David’s books were donated to the Junior School library for all of our pupils to enjoy.
