Armistice Day
To ensure pupils remained safe within their bubbles, this year’s poignant Remembrance Service at Solihull took a rather different form, with pupils and staff across the whole school community watching a live stream of the wreath laying ceremony at the school War Memorial.
As Upper Sixth students gathered in the school’s Great Quadrangle at 11am on Wednesday 11 November to remember those who died in two world wars and other conflicts, pupils at both the Prep School and the Senior School viewed the service in real time from their respective classrooms.
Wreaths were laid at the school’s War Memorial by Headmaster David EJJ Lloyd; Chairman of the Governors, Mark Hopton; CCF Manager, Phil Dean MBE; Bursar, Richard Bate; President of the Parents’ Association, Archana Somaiya; President of Saint Martin’s Old Girls Association, Louise Cox; President of the Old Silhillians’ Association, Peter Earl and Solihull Deputy Head of School, Hannan Welch.
A rendition of the Last Post was played by Head of School, Bethan Bown, followed by two-minute silence, the Reveille and a Roll of Honour before the Headmaster recited the traditional tribute to The Fallen.
