Nial crowned Taekwondo champion

Niall McManus, who goes to Solihull Junior School, won gold in the Under-12 (155cm-160cm height) point-stop sparring event at the Independent Taekwondo Schools British Championships, held at Forest Glades Leisure Centre in Kidderminster.

He also won silver in the synchronised taekwondo patterns for Under-16s and bronze in the Under-16 light continuous sparring events for all heights and weights.

A member of Verve Martial Arts Club in Bromsgrove, Niall has a black belt first Dan with silver stripe (the grade between first and second Dan) and assists his chief instructor John Swift in training the club's five to eight year olds at junior grades.

John Swift said: “This has been another fantastic outing for Verve Taekwondo students and Niall McManus in particular. As one of the team's black belt members, he led by example in winning a handful of trophies against opposition from across Britain.

“Niall's British Championship success has been the product of his continued hard work, dedication and passion for his martial arts. As always, he represented himself, his instructors and family impeccably and showed outstanding sportsmanship.”
