Choristers Support Gary Barlow On UK Tour.
Solihull School’s choristers are looking forward to the thrill of a lifetime after being invited to support singer-songwriter Gary Barlow on his solo UK tour.
The independent school’s Chapel Choir will be accompanying the Take That star and former X Factor head judge at Birmingham’s LG Arena on April 8th and 19th.
More than 40 members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs will be performing Sing, the official Diamond Jubilee song co-written by Gary and musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, exclusively over the two nights.
Sing is one of 13 number one singles and 23 top 10 hits written by Gary Barlow, a six-time recipient of the Ivor Novello Award. He has also had three chart-toppers, six top 10 hits and two number one albums as a solo artist.
Solihull School was approached after its Chamber Choir sang recently in a BBC Radio 4 Daily Service - and again at St Paul’s Cathedral, with a new work that it had premiered at School by leading choral composer Ben Parry.
Last year the Boys’ Choir sang in Britten’s War Requiem at the Bergen International Festival at the invitation of the King of Norway.
The choristers gave their school friends a preview of what they will be singing at the LG Arena in their end of term assembly today (Friday) after rehearsing the work out of normal school hours with their Head of Choral Music Oliver Walker.
Oliver Walker said: “Our choristers are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to accompany one of the world’s greatest singer-songwriters. These are terrifically exciting times for Solihull Chapel Choir as it continues to build an outstanding national and international reputation.”
