Solihull School

J2

In J2, pupils have become used to their established routines and the expectations of the Junior School, so it is now that they are encouraged to become more independent. Our J2 pupils move around the Preparatory School campus more to use the specific teaching rooms such as the science laboratory, art room and computer suites and further develop their love of learning.

In their English curriculum they study Roald Dahl and enjoy writing revolting medicines of their own, as well as learning about the cruel characters of Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker in James and the Giant Peach. In maths, J2 pupils extend their knowledge of numbers and operations, become more confident when using the tools and equipment for measuring and develop problem-solving skills. In the J2 Science curriculum, pupils enjoy discovering the habitats of various living things in the school grounds, testing the friction of toy cars on different surfaces and develop their investigative skills and scientific knowledge further through a range of practical activities. In WPD lessons, pupils learn how to develop greater resilience, study mindfulness and continue to learn about how they can adopt a growth mindset to help them face and overcome challenges.

Children enjoy trips to the Gurdwara and Birmingham Thinktank as part of their J2 RS and science lessons. J2 iPad Club and Drama club are always popular amongst the children, alongside the many sport and music activities that are offered in our busy co-curricular programme.
