solihull preparatory school
Children may join the Nursery in September following their third birthday.
Children are required to attend the Nursery for a minimum of 5 mornings per week (3 hours per day). Please note that we do not regard this as a sufficient amount of time to fully prepare them for entry into Reception, therefore, it is compulsory for children to also attend the Lunchtime Session each day during the Easter and summer terms (increasing to 4.5 hours per day).
Additionally, during the summer term children will also be required to attend a minimum of 2 full days per week to further prepare them for a smooth transition to Reception (totalling 27.5 hours per week, i.e. 3 x 4.5 hours + 2 x 7 hours). You may wish to choose additional sessions over and above the minimum requirements.
Places in Nursery are offered in the order in which completed registrations are received, subject to a family visit, school tour, informal (observational) assessment, reference(s) where appropriate and a meeting with the Head or delegate thereof.
Following admission, further ongoing informal assessments will take place throughout the Nursery year to ensure that Solihull is the right school for your son or daughter. Parents/guardians will be notified during the Christmas term if there are any immediate concerns.
Fees per session - to be confirmed - are inclusive of mid-morning snack and lunch as appropriate.
A chargeable wraparound provision will be made available. Further details can be found at Wraparound Care
Please note that all children must be toilet trained prior to starting.
- Morning Session - 8:30am - 11:30am - covered by the 15 hours Government entitlement
- Lunchtime Session - 11:30am - 1:00pm
- Afternoon Session - 1:00pm - 3:30pm
- Full time Monday - Friday - 8:30am - 3:30pm
Childcare vouchers are accepted in the Nursery only.
Places in Reception are offered in the order in which completed registrations are received, subject to a family visit, school tour, informal (observational) assessment, reference(s) where appropriate and a meeting with the Head or delegate thereof.
Following admission, further ongoing informal assessments will take place throughout Reception to ensure that Solihull is the right school for your son or daughter.
Places in Infant 1 are offered in the order in which completed registrations are received, subject to a family visit, school tour, informal assessment, reference(s) and a meeting with the Head or delegate thereof.
Following admission, further ongoing informal assessments will take place throughout Infant 1 to ensure that Solihull is the right school for your son or daughter.
Infant 2 (6+)
For those children hoping to join us in Infant 2, they must perform sufficiently well in the 6+ assessment and have supportive reference(s) from their current school.
Subject to confirmation by the Headmaster, all pupils in Infants will ordinarily transfer to Junior 1. The Headmaster intends to confirm these places at the same time as he offers external applicants a place following our 7+ exam. Offers of places in J1 are subject to sustained good performance throughout the remainder of Infant 2.
All of our Infant 2 pupils will sit the 7+ entrance examination for benchmarking purposes.
All of our J4 pupils will sit the 11+ entrance examination, regardless of their offer status, so that they can compete for academic scholarships and provide the Senior School with useful benchmark information.
For those pupils hoping to join us in the Third Form (Year 7), they must perform sufficiently well in the 11+ examination and have supportive references from their current school.
For more detailed information regarding entrance at 11+ please refer to Pathways to Senior School at 11+
In the case of students entering the Sixth Form from other schools, admission is based on interview and GCSE results. The Sixth Form Booklet (including further detail on the application process, relevant dates and subject choices) is available below.
