Solihull School

  • Microsoft Showcase School status for Solihull

Solihull School has been recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School for 2025-2026. This prestigious recognition is awarded to schools that demonstrate excellence in digital transformation and innovation using Microsoft solutions.

Solihull was first recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School in 2023. The school’s vision is to harness technology to inspire innovation, creativity, and continuous growth across their school community. Retention of Showcase School status for 2025–26 recognises the further strides Solihull have taken over the past year. This included the launch of an AI and Digital Champions group, bringing together staff from every academic department in the Senior School alongside colleagues from the Preparatory School to share best practice and drive innovation. The group has begun developing custom GPTs to create AI tutors that support students with revision and personalised feedback - practical examples of how the school are preparing young people for a future shaped by technology. The school also hosted an AI Symposium, featuring a panel of pupils, staff, and guest speaker Dan Fitzpatrick, The AI Educator, to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming learning.

Headmaster Charles Fillingham said: “I am delighted that Solihull has been recognised again this year by Microsoft. The whole team has pulled together to build a school-wide vision for digital engagement and transformation. Our use of Microsoft tools and applications enhances teaching and learning, supports wellbeing and inclusion, and prepares our pupils for the future.”

The Microsoft Education Team congratulated Solihull School on its achievement and welcomed it to the global network of Microsoft Showcase Schools. “Solihull School is an outstanding example of how technology can transform education. We are impressed by their vision, leadership, culture, and impact. We are excited to work with them to inspire other schools and celebrate their successes.”

Sean Morgan, Head of the Senior School, added: “We remain incredibly proud of the progress we continue to make in our use of technology both inside and outside the classroom in pursuit of the quality of our teaching and learning being optimal. Technology empowers our pupils to collaborate with others, to develop future-ready skills and quite simply, to learn better. The level of digital literacy and confidence in using various tools and resources across the school has improved exponentially in recent years.”

Matthew van Alderwegen, Director of Assessment and Digital Strategy, said:  “This has been an exciting year for digital innovation at Solihull. We continue to actively explore how schools can respond positively to the rapid rise of AI - supporting our own pupils and staff to engage with its opportunities with confidence and curiosity. Our pupil-led AI Club, run by the Computing Department, has inspired creativity and thoughtful debate, reinforced by clear guidance, AI-focused assemblies, and staff training. Rather than standing back, we’ve chosen to approach AI thoughtfully and proactively - embracing its potential to enrich learning and prepare our community for the future.”
